The Howard G. Buffett Foundation 40 Chances Seed Grants Program of $10,000

convocatoriasThe 40 Chances Seed Grants program will provide small-scale funding to the most innovative nonprofit organizations and/or Nongovernmental Organizations (NGOs) that use strategies built on the principles of 40 Chances: Finding Hope in a Hungry World.  These nonprofits must support solutions to social challenges in the areas of food security, conflict, or poverty alleviation.

The strategies of nonprofits that apply for a seed grant must clearly involve local leadership and management into the operations of the organization, and integrate locally driven design, development, and deployment in its programs or services.  In addition, the organization’s efforts should fill gaps in existing value chains, or otherwise combine a variety of complementary and existing efforts into a comprehensive and integrated approach to solve the intended challenge.  Grants of $10,000 will be provided to selected winners.

Fall applications are due October 15, 2014 at 5 PM EST. Seed grants will be awarded twice per year, and winners for the second round of grants will be announced in the Fall of 2014. Organizations must have U.S. 501(c)(3) tax exempt status to be eligible, or be sponsored by an organization that does. Recipients of seed grants will be expected to provide a report on the use of the grant and its impact following the implementation of funds.
