Jacksonville Business Journal reports on the development of a new grant funding source for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community in North Florida. Called The LGBT Community Foundation for Northeast Florida, the fund recently awarded $100,000 in grants to North Florida organizations.
«Years ago, we started informally asking the question, ‘what would happen if …?’ And now we’ve got this dedicated group that can address the goals of raising capital and meeting the unique needs of the LGBT community and their families,” said [Jeff] Chartrand [underwriter of the exploratory group that lead to the Fund’s creation]. “The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida is the container space that makes it possible –they’re embraced here and have integrity. It takes courage.”
Four specific concerns – elders, workplace, youth and faith communities – led to the selection of grant recipients.
